There have been rumors circulating for a long time about discontinuing the B.Ed course, but today we will tell you how the 2-year and 4-year B.Ed courses have been discontinued and now you can pursue B.Ed through what means. But it’s confirmed news that the B.Ed course has been discontinued.

Firstly, it should be noted that a notice has been issued on the official website of the government and NCTE regarding the closure of the 4-year Integrated B.Ed course. It has been stated that you will not be able to pursue this course anymore.

Now, instead of the 4-year B.Ed Integrated course, the ITEP B.Ed and B.Sc B.Ed courses will be conducted. NCTE has discontinued many 4-year B.Ed Integrated courses this year, and from 2025-26, all colleges and institutions offering 4-year B.Ed courses in the country will implement the new ITEP course.

Regarding the 2-year B.Ed course:

The government has discontinued the 2-year Special B.Ed course from its end. Besides, according to the new education policy, after 2030, only those teachers will be in schools that have completed the new 4-year ITEP course of the respective year.

This means that currently, the 4-year B.A B.Ed, B.Sc B.Ed and B.Com B.Ed courses are going to be discontinued. In their place, the government is introducing a new 4-year course, which will be implemented from 2025. Additionally, the 2-year B.Ed course will continue until 2030, after which you won’t be able to pursue B.Ed for 2 years either. Also, we’d like to inform you that after 2030, only those teachers will be recruited in schools that have completed the new 4-year B.A B.Ed, B.Sc B.Ed, and B.Com B.Ed courses. The 2-year B.Ed course will be applicable only for higher education purposes.

ITEP 4-year Course Overview:

The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has launched the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) across the country for the academic year 2023-24. This course was launched in March 2023, which was notified on 26th October 2021. It is a 4-year double-degree program, offering B.A. B.Ed./ B.Sc B.Ed./ and B.Com B.Ed. courses. This course, aligned with the new education policy, will prepare teachers for the four stages of the new school education system: Foundational, Preparatory, Middle, and Secondary (5+3+3+4).
